DESCRIPTION:Day event – Class A uniforms \nOur troop day of reflection\, previously held in December of each year\, is coming up this Saturday the 16th.  As you may recall\, this change in plans was put into motion at the request of Fr. McDonnell during Advent\, and the date selected was ultimately by Fr. McDonnell in consultation with the pastor taking into consideration the other parish activities also ongoing. I plan on moving this event back to December for 2019.   Fr. McDonnell has provided the following agenda for the day for us:\n\n9:30                  Mass with Sermon\n10:15 to 10:45  Break\n10:45 to 11:15  Conference\n11:15 to  Noon  Outdoors\n12:00 to 12:20  Rosary\n12:20 to  1:00   Conference\n1:00   to  1:30   Lunch\n1:30   to  2:15  Outdoors\n2:15   to  2:30  Benediction\n\nWhile not part of the day of reflection\, per our discussion during the last camp out\, we will also:\n2:30   to  3:30  Inventory and Organize Camp Trailer\n\n\nI have let Fr McDonnell know that we are working on the apologetic achievement course and have targeted Easter to be the time when we all individually complete this course\, per our discussion during the last camp out.\n\nI will purchase lunch materials for this event\, which will consist of cold cuts\, chips\, drinks etc\, as we ordinarily have during our camp outs.  If you require specific foods\, please let me know and I will make sure we have some on hand.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThank you.  God bless.

SUMMARY:02/22/19 to 02/24/19 - Camp at Meridian State Park - Hike\, Achievements\, Ranger-led Class
DESCRIPTION:  \nHi All\,\n\nI have attached a spreadsheet with the current details on the camp.  I visited HQ this week and found it unsuitable for camping due to excessive standing water\, so we will be going to an alternative camping place:  Meridian State Park\, and we will be camping in the Cedar Ridge Youth Group Camp site.  The file below contains links to various maps of the park and emergency services.\n\nTSG 1 Campout February 22-24 2019 Details\n\nThis camp out we are going to hike the trails in the morning and work on advancement items after a Ranger led program about animals right after lunch on Saturday. So bring your current list of advancement items you have already completed\, and those you anticipate working on.\n\nI am checking with Fr. McDonnell on Mass for Saturday afternoon\, and will update you on any changes well prior to the weekend.\n\nYou will not have to personally pay any park camping fee for this trip\, that is covered by the Troop.  However\, because this camp is at the state park\, you will need to purchase a day use pass for each individual that is $5/person/day unless you have a park passport\, in which case the fee is waived (by the way\, the annual pass is 70/year and it gets you in all parks for free for everyone in your car.  If you visit 2 or more times anywhere\, it pays for itself\, or so I have found out.  You can buy a pass at the park if you like\, and any day use fees for this event will be waived).  That payment will need to be made by you when you register at the gate when you arrive.  Those arriving after the office at the park closes\, it is no problem\, you can address it Saturday morning.  I will give further instructions on late arrivals on Thursday the 21st.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLet me know if you have problems with the spreadsheet file by texting me at 972 375-1934 and I will get a different file format to you .\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThank you.  God bless.

SUMMARY:03/22/19 to 03/24/19 Camp - Hiking\, Remote Camping\, Camp Craft Skills
DESCRIPTION:While we originally planned to visit Clear Creek Monastery this March\, that will not be possible this camp.  Should you wish to travel to Clear Creek\, I have asked Troops 5 and 31\, who I understand are planning to visit Clear Creek\, one in March\, one in April if some could tag along with them.  Contact me at 972 375 1934 if you wish to do this.\n\nDuring this camp we will establish our normal camp.  However\, on Saturday morning\, the seniors will  pack their backpacks with all they will need and hike about a mile out and establish a tent camp\, bringing all they will need with them\, including food and water\, tents\, etc.  Cadets not remote camping will work on camp craft skills\, till the backpackers are ready to leave\, then will begin a 3 mile hike and tag along with the backpackers until they arrive at their camp spot.  The younger cadets will then continue on their hike while the seniors will set up camp. Lunch on the trail.   All will join at the campfire Saturday night. We will focus on our goal of completing the apologetic AC for all participants and will also spend time to make sure that each cadet is in possession of their proper rank and patches.  Of course\, fishing is on as usual\, as will be foosball.  Registration open from 3/12-3/19.  Fee is standard $15/per person with $45/family cap.  We may have two loaner backpacks so if you would like to borrow one\, let Captain Toups know by 3/12.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNOTE:  Registration for this event will be open from 3/12 thru 3/19.  Please register within this window of time.\n\n\nPlease click on the following link for camp details: TSG 1 Campout March 22-24 2019 Details\n\n\nThank you.  God bless.

Dominic at the monastery would like to get a rough idea of the number of TSG helpers within the next week\, please RSVP let me know if you and your boy(s) are planning on attending this year as soon as you can\, but no later than next Tuesday evening\, May 28th\, and sooner if you can.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThank you.  God bless.

SUMMARY:04/25/20 Day Event - Fishing with "Mr. Crappie"

See below for our alternate\, awesome plan! \nChris\, the HQ landowner is giving us access to his pond anytime until normalcy resumes.  This is a great way to safely get some fresh air.  A semi-pro angler who fishes his pond caught 30 fish just a couple of weeks ago and said that he hadn’t seen that kind of fishing since the 80’s! \nWhen going on your own\, use either the regular gate or the one by the water tower.  The code to the gate lock is St. George’s feast day\, April 23\, or 0423.  Please make sure to lock it behind you\, linking it to another lock.  Other people have their own locks\, and interlocking them gives us all access. \nRandom people seem to use his pond occasionally.  If you see anyone else there\, please notify Eric Gruchet at 214-213-0216 and he will pass it on to Chris who will decide if he wants to check it out or not.  Some have his permission\, some do not. \nALTERNATE\, AWESOME PLAN FOR SAT. 04/25/20: \nWe will have none other than Wally Marshall\, “Mr. Crappy” come give everyone a lesson and fish with us!!!  He’s super nice guy who lives 3 miles from HQ.  He said he will have goodie-bags for everyone\, t-shirts and what-nots.  He is very excited to be able to be doing this and was the one thanking us profusely! \nFor those of you who do not know who “Mr. Crappie” is\, click on the links below.  If you have ever bought any fishing gear anywhere\, you have seen his name.  We will have our very own superstar of fishing! \nhttps://www.mrcrappie.com/ \nhttps://www.crappieexpo.com/ \nhttps://www.wired2fish.com/news/crappie-expo-2020-destination-announced/ \nPlease plan on arriving to be set up by the pond at 0900 for a very educative and fun day of fishing! \nWe WILL be observing proper social distancing for this event\, so there should be no fears with compliance with suggested health directives.   Further\, we will not be sharing ANY supplies for safety reasons.  Let’s be responsible in the way we “gather”.  The troop will not provide anything except the opportunity to get to the outdoors.  Bring your own drinks\, lunches\, sunblock\, spare rods\, and whatever supplies you may need. \nPlan on entering through the water tanks gate on the southeast corner\, south from the regular gate.  Park inside the gate and walk from there\, or further down the path if you have the right vehicle to do so and the ground is dry enough.  Plenty of parking areas closer to the pond. \nMr. Crappie needs to know how many people will attend so he can bring enough “goodies and t-shirts”. Trust me\, kids will get a kick about wearing a “Mr. Crappy” t-shirt… \nPlease register asap. \nLet’s get out\, get some fresh air\, learn\, and have good fun fishing! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThank you.  God bless.

We will be doing a lot of walking after dark\, so bring a good flashlight\, batteries\, and dress accordingly\n\n.\nBe aware that if you rely on phone service for mapping you will get lost\, as once you head east out of Wagoner\, Ok\, service becomes very spotty.  Print out the maps and take them in the car with you.\n\nWe are going to be doing:  blacksmithing\, knife and hatchet throwing\, orienteering\, and firewood cutting.  So\, bring good work gloves\, your compass\, and a sharp knife.\nWe will be heading to the Monastery several times a day\, some to take part in the liturgy of the hours\, some to hear a talk from a Monk\, and some to attend Mass with the Monks.  Make sure you are prepared with rosary in hand.\n\nI personally will be departing from Mater Dei after son Peter gets finished with a class on Thursday\, Oct 22 at around 11 am.  I am planning to arrive at the camp area on the Monastery property  by 5 as I want to be able to set up in the daylight.  That means if you wish or need to contact me\, I will be reachable pretty surely until about 4 pm on Thursday.  After that\, I doubt seriously that I will be able to receive a phone signal for the remainder of the stay.\n\nEmergency Services:  the closest is in Wagoner not far from the Super Walmart.  Check out the maps..\n\nIf you have not signed up for this camp on the web page\, please do so by Wednesday afternoon as I will be purchasing food.  Let me know how many of you there will be and approximately when you will be arriving\, and when you plan on departing.  It helps a lot in the planning.\n\nDonation for the Monastery:  Bring a contribution for the monastery as you deem fit. We will be done in time to attend 5:30 pm Mass if you like.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat is the cost for Events 1 and 2?:  Nothing\,\nWhat do you need to bring?  Class A uniform\, or as close to it as you can get.\nDo you need to sign up?:  Yes.  Sign up available above.

C. Swearingen Recreation Area” Sabine River Authority Day Use Area on Lake Fork approximately 90 miles (an hour and 45 minutes) east of Mater Dei\, located on the north side of the branch of Lake Fork just north of Quitman (https://goo.gl/maps/KQXa4wjS3AYSWwH88). \n\n\nThere will be no Friday night camp or activities during this event.\nThere will be no Sacraments during this event.\n\nWe will get wet.  Bring bathing suits\, water shoes\, and sunscreen.  And a change of dry clothes\nBring fishing gear if you wish to fish.\nBring your mess kit.\n\nCost:  $8/person\, $24 per family max.  Covers the cost of lunch and supper on Saturday.  No additional costs for those electing the optional overnight camp Saturday night.\nRegister Online:  Register at TSG1 online as starting Friday\, April 16. \n\nSaturday will begin promptly at 10 am.\n\n1000 :  Opening Prayer\n1015 thru thru 1300:  Sampling and critter Identification techniques by Terry Wilson\, Sabine River Authority Biologist\, and other biologists\, Lake Fork\n\n1300:  Lunch- Grilled hot dogs with all the fixings\n\n1430-1700  Afternoon Sampling and identification of creatures\n1700 -1900  Fishing\, swimming\, exploring\n1900   Grilled Steak Dinner\n\n2000 pm  Depart for either the optional overnight camp at the Old Sabine River Bottom state wildlife management area\, or for home.\n\nOptional Saturday Night Camping:\n\nThose that wish will do primitive camping at the Old Sabine River Bottom State Wildlife Management Area.  We will convoy the 40 minutes from Swearingen Park to the Camp site\, Here are the directions anyway: https://goo.gl/maps/BLhSuaR5SXw7udhr5\n\nThere are three designated camping spots at the WMA\, and we will be camping at the first such designated spot\, which is located about 2 miles into the WMA\, just north of the TPWD offices at the entrance of the WMA.  You will need water\, tent\, etc.  and BUG SPRAY since this is a bottomland area after all.   While there is no direct charge to camp at any specific WMA\, a camping permit is required\, and a single use permit costs $12\, one that can be used all year\, like a license\, at any of the WMAs can be had for around $40\, and like fishing and hunting licenses\, is good for the year running from August thru August.  You can purchase the permit at any place that sells Texas hunting and fishing licenses.  This is different from a State Park pass.  To recap\, if you wanted to camp\, you need a WMA camping permit.  If you wanted to fish or hunt\, you need a regular permit for those activities\, like everywhere else.  You can obtain both of those permits at any place selling fishing licenses\, or online.\n\n\nHere is a link to the camping permit application:\nhttps://tpwd.texas.gov/huntwild/hunt/public/annual_public_hunting/#APH\n\n\nBreakfast consists of cold items.\n\nCamp will break by 9:00 am.  Folks are free to wander the WMA\, which is about 5000 acres in size.  I recommend breathable boots that can get wet.  The Sabine River is accessible in the area. I recommend driving in a truck or SUV\, as the roads in the WMA are primitive.\n\nMass can be joined at St Joseph the Worker Catholic Church\, a Latin Mass\, FSSP parish located about 30 minutes south from the WMA on the northern outskirts of Tyler.  Here are the directions:  https://goo.gl/maps/SRarrhwi5gJNESiQ7  Masses are said at 8 am (low) and 10 am (Sung).\n\n\nThank you.  God bless.
